2018 saw several works from the nollywood movie industry presented on our screens and one of these was Chief Daddy, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan from the stables of EbonyLife.
The movie was released in the second week of December 2018, a peak period for cinema-goers.
Featuring award winning actors like Kate Henshaw, Shaffy Bello, Bisola Aiyeola, Folarin Falana aka Falz, Funke Akindele and Dakore Akande among others, Chief Daddy tells the story of Yoruba billionaire, Chief Beecroft, an upstanding socialite with a renowned popularity for being extravagant in his expenditures and a plethora of mistresses but moreso, the events following his demise.
When he ‘kicks the bucket’, the Beecroft household is thrown into a disarray of surprises and overreaching plot twists.
The spurts of comedy diffused what would have otherwise been a very tense movie experience.
Star studded as it was, the dialogue was lacking to an extent and it was apparent that the script was working off a template similar to most comedy-centred nollywood movies. It wasn’t horrible, just not as exciting as the trailer decked it out to be.
However, if you seek a good laugh and an on-screen lavish lifestyle experience then, you are sure to love Chief Daddy.
If you haven’t seen it, then it is an excellent choice for a stress free time so be sure to check it out at a cinema near you.
