THE ATTACHMENT OF THE HUMAN SKIN IS WHAT CAUSES DIMPLES
The unique attributes of a person make them either endearing or annoying. Dimples have always been the former. Seeing a beautiful smile with a little dent in the person’s cheek is a delightful sight every single time.
Most people believe that dimples are hereditary but they are really just a natural formation of the person’s face which may or may not be dependent on the individual’s genes.
In Nigeria, it is believed that while nurturing a newborn infant the mother can create dimples by pressing in the spots during bath time. The validity of this myth is yet to be proven but we love dimples regardless.
Scientifically however, it has been discovered that dimples (known as gelasin) is an indentation in a person’s flesh which can occur anywhere on the body as a result of muscle-skin attachment.
Most common dimple spots are the cheeks, chin and lower back. Cheek dimples vary as some are permanently there while others only appear alongside the individual’s facial expression.
Artificial methods of creating dimples have been discovered but natural or not, we love a beautiful dimpled smile!
