Ever gone to your old Facebook account to dig out someone’s contact info, only to come across some of your throwback pictures and wonder why on earth you thought wearing boots on a midi flared skirt was such a great idea?
Yep! That’s how we felt when we saw these fashion trends from way back ‘09
- Trends such as Bandage belts, Oversized Sunglasses, gigantic earring hoops and colorful scarfs reigned in the days when Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashians were besties. Although, a few beauty influencers have introduced them in the past year.
- Low-waist bottoms are not forgotten. These babies were featured in high fashion magazines; everyone on the streets were seen wearing them. Everything from skirts (Mini, Midi and Maxi) to Trousers (Pants and Jeans). Sometimes, they were combined with T-shirts, cropped strapless tops, halter necks or fishnet tops. The point was to expose the belly button which also influenced the belly piercing trend.
- Through the break of artists like Shakira, Rihanna and Brick and Lace in the mid-2000s, the Caribbean-Bohemian style became a huge trend for other artists and the rest of the world. This style included wearing outfits like Harem pants, maxi bohemian skirts, dangling earring, dropping necklaces made from stones and huge bangle hoops.
- Platform pencil heels! We cannot leave these out. Between 2009-2012, Lady Gaga’s fame was at its peak and so was her fashion sense. She inspired designers like Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin to create out-of-this-world, dramatic heels reaching up to 14 inches. In order to make it comfortable, they included thick platforms at the toe-area to balance the heels.
Unfortunately, we can’t capture all the trends in this article but hair and makeup is the last but definitely not the least trend we remembered. This is because hair and makeup have played a significant role in fashion time-telling. Back in the day, if your eyebrows weren’t thin enough to slice through ice, you would have been arrested by the fashion police.
In current times, any of the makeup looks from the earl 2000’s would be an absolute blunder but some of them like the shiny lip-gloss and shimmery shadow look are making steady comebacks.
So before you crucify a makeup look, remember that in a couple of years it will make a smashing comeback that will make you wish you rocked it at its peak!
Fashion is ever-changing and brilliant!
