CBN denies reports that it has sacked its governor, Godwin Emefiele
On Monday, Social media was in full rage as Nigerians reacted as there were reports that the Nigerian government asked the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to proceed on leave, ahead of expiration of his tenure. Although, The Central Bank Of Nigeria has debunked all reports regarding the governor of the apex bank being sacked by the current government.
On Monday evening, March 4th 2019, a senior member of the apex bank who requested anonymity, reportedly told a Daily Trust journalist during a phone interview, that the reports of Emefiele’s sack is fake and the CBN governor is very much around(Source: Daily Trust). He said : “I can confirm to you that he has not been sacked. He is in his office this minute attending to matters as the Governor. We don’t know where this rumor is coming from and we don’t understand what it is meant to achieve,”
Godwin Emefiele who was Chief Executive officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc and previously the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. Emefiele served as Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning of Zenith Bank Plc and has been on the Management team since inception.
