Tertiary education brings a wholesome learning experience. It’s your first taste of pure independence and a chance to learn how to do things on your own.
It is also a system that has been set in place for you to work hard for your goals and be opinion dependent. Check out these few things we believe every tertiary education-level student should know during their time and some tips on how to accomplish them.
- DEVELOP YOUR KNOWLEDGE!
You must develop your knowledge away from the classroom. Unlike secondary education, where 80% of the knowledge needed would be provided in the classroom and a rough 20% would be sourced for during assignments and group projects.
The tertiary education system comes with a shift -your lecturer only provides 20% of the knowledge required and you research about the non-equivalent 80%.
Here, reading and studying hard becomes your homework. You literally can’t afford laziness!
First tip would be to understand yourself.
The system is meant to be harder than high school and once you get into your upper-level courses, it really shows. Good study habits really help a lot and can define your performance levels.
Try not to read in your room, if you’re in a school hostel. Distractions are a lot more concentrated there.
Also, it helps to invest in a planner so that you can purposely set aside study time.
2. HAVE AN ACTIVE SOCIAL LIFE!!
Best believe that there are certain lifelong-impacts your university relationships can have on you. Set out to meet people on purpose and without one, that is, be both determined and flexible when it comes to making friends.
It is true that you never know who is who and the link to an idea or an investor might just be with someone you never thought about. This is not to say that you should exploit people, it just means that you are the answer to someone else’s questions too!
Have as active a social life, as you can. Find what works best for you when it comes to studying and pencil time for socializing.
It doesn’t have to be parties and raves, if that’s not your medicine. You can see a movie, go to an artsy hangout or simply strike a conversation with someone at the campus complex.
Even as an extremely shy person, just always remember that you are someone’s definition of friend.
3. FIND YOUR BALANCE!!!
The most important thing, by a long shot, is having a balance while in College.
Between everything from studies to social, platonic to romantic, health to treat days. Just make sure to always look out for your peace and the perfect balance between the two.
UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME FERRIS WHEEL… JUST ENJOY THE RIDE!
